Hello again Interliners, and welcome back to another ID90 Travel team feature! This week we’re introducing the illustrious and elusive David W, our Head of Technology. He’s a pretty cool dude who is the king of putting out fires, and living for lunch (as long as someone else drives). We hope you enjoy getting to know this well-traveled techie as much as we did, so without much else to do we’ll go ahead and let David introduce himself…

Name/Nickname:

David W. & “Where are we going for lunch?”

Position:

Head of Technology

What place influenced you the most growing up?

I was born and raised in Texas, but I’ve traveled a lot. I feel like I’ve been influenced by many of the cool places I’ve been and lived in. (Dallas, Australia, London, Argentina, New York, and Abu Dhabi to name a few!)

What is the last book you read, or TV show you watched?

I’ve recently read Sprint: How to Solve Big Problems and Test New Ideas in Just Five Days, suggested by my ID90 Travel teammate Roger. As far as TV goes I’ve been watching The People V. O.J. Simpson while anxiously awaiting the new Game of Thrones season.

If you could trade lives with someone who would it be?

I would trade lives with Jeff Bezos of Amazon. His work amazes me. Amazon is literally changing the world every day in multiple different industries.

Who (or what) inspires you to be the best you?

My parents and family (my wife and two little ones) inspire me every day. So does delivering high performing products for our members to production. Seeing how we measure up and perform (through data and analytics) is a huge motivator for me as well.

Tell us three things about yourself & make one a lie.

I play hockey. I lived in Sydney, Australia for two years. My favorite programming language is Cold Fusion.

What is one adventurous thing you’d love to do but haven’t had the time to?

I’ve always wanted to play hockey in Canada in the winter. Ottawa, Ontario is home to the largest naturally frozen skating rink in the world, and every year people make makeshift hockey rinks all down it. Sounds awesome, right?

What’s your favorite kind of vacation?

I love anything in a big city. They’re so full of life and culture.

You’re given an unlimited budget and unlimited time, where do you travel?

I would take 6 months just to drive around Australia. I’ve been to the country before, in fact, I lived there for two years! It’s one of my favorite places in the world, and this time I’d really make a point to get to know all of it.

What is your most bizarre talent?

I am ambidextrous in sports.

What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on?

I went with my wife to Mana Island in Fiji and it was absolutely incredible! We took a helicopter to the island and spent a whole 7 days without phones or a TV. Talk about really having some R&R! What’s cool about the island is that you can walk around the entire thing in 30 minutes.

What’s your “travel style?

Jetsetter for sure. I travel quite a bit for work and find that simplicity is key.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Sarcastic, dedicated, intense.

That’s it for this article. We hope you enjoyed getting to meet this smart dad of two (whose adorable little girls makes the entire office cry from cuteness overload). Until next time, safe travels and keep your eyes on the skies!
