Welcome back to our continuing series on Interliner where we introduce you to our ID90 Travel team! At ID90 we work to get you the best deals on hotels, rental cars, cruises, and all-inclusive resorts. To do this we strive to learn as much as we can about you and what you want out of your travel experience. In this series we turn the tables, letting you get to know the team that’s working behind the scenes.

This week you get to meet Carter. He’s our office Alpha Ginger, King of Salt, and Marketing Automation Manager. Yes, those lovely and pithy (amazing) travel deal emails you get are most likely from him! He’s creative, hardworking, and a bit cantankerous (in the best and most hilarious way of course). True to form, he had some great answers to the interview questions we threw his way.

Carter & “Chalupa Batman

I’m the “Marketing Automation Manager” for ID90 Travel. My job runs the gamut of online and offline marketing initiatives. If you’re an ID90 Travel member and you’ve ever received an e-mail from us, there’s a very good chance I was the one who put it together and hit “send” (and yes, I take full responsibility for those subject lines, too!)

Where did you grow up, or what do you claim as your city of most influence?

I grew up in the Alamo City (San Antonio, Texas), but for the past ten years I’ve called Fort Worth, Texas my home. (He’s a horned frog, but we’ll forgive him!)

You’re given an unlimited budget & unlimited time, where do you travel?

Somewhere in the South Pacific for sure. Fiji, maybe – at one of those resorts where your room sits on piers out over that crystal clear aquamarine water. And as long as it’s an unlimited budget, I’m probably not coming back!

What is the last song you listened to?

The last song I listened to was “Power of Love” by Huey Lewis and the News. Before that? “Question Bedtime” by MC Frontalot. My musical tastes are all over the board.

Who (or what) motivates you to do what you do?

Secretly, I’m terrified of becoming the sort of mid-40s pot-bellied slowly balding guy who drives a late model PT Cruiser and looks like he licks shop windows as a pastime. My main motivation in life is to do whatever it takes to not become that man.

If you could trade lives with someone, who would it be?

Definitely one of my wife’s cats. Those things live the life.

What is your go-to traveling hack/tip?

Oooh, easy one! I always bring a few small brown paper bags filled with goodies (magazines, snacks, etc.) as a ‘thank you’ for the cabin crew. I never expect anything in return, but 99% of the time this little gesture makes any flight infinitely more pleasant.

Shark diving, bungee jumping, or sky diving?

I’m not terrified of heights, but I am terrified of falling. I’ve always wanted to tackle that fear by doing some sky diving or base jumping. Also, I love a good physical challenge, so I’m currently training to complete an Ironman triathlon. Who knows what’s next… Everest, maybe?

Tell us three things about yourself & make one a lie.

I’m a classically trained cellist. I played semi-professional rugby for eight years. I’m married to a former Miss Nebraska.

What’s your favorite kind of vacation?

Most often, beach! You just can’t beat the relaxation that comes from laying on the warm sand, listening to the waves roll in, sipping an exotic drink with a little umbrella, and watching an impossibly fat man walk past in a speedo that’s clearly struggling for its life. There’s always one.

What’s the best trip you’ve ever been on?

Ohhh, tie between the summer trips my family took to Telluride, Colorado when I was young and a recent trip to Napa with my wife and her family.

What is your most bizarre talent?

According to my wife, I possess the rare and unique talent of “pantry blindness.” I am unable to see things in the pantry until I ask here where said item is.

What’s your “travel style?”

Jetsetter for sure! I love exploring new places and cultures, but it’s a hell of a lot more fun if you get there in first class and head back to an awesome hotel at the end of the day.

Describe yourself in 3 words.

Adventurous. Friendly. Driven.

Thanks for reading and wanting to get to know our team. If you ever want to share your fun travel stories we would love to listen!
