Cancún! It’s a beauty with its incredible winding coast, lush soft beaches, eye-opening nature reserves, rich history, and incredible food. I could go on and on! This city, and the surrounding area, is the mecca of all things relaxing and recharging, and guess what, you have the chance to visit it. “Whattttt,” I can practically hear you all doubting and rolling your eyes through the screen. YES, it is possible, and I’ll tell you why.
For starters, you work for an airline, hence you have amazing perks, and (if you’re pretty senior) an amazing schedule. Secondly, this is one of the best times of the year to visit Cancún, location-wise and price-wise. Plus you have us, and all of the perks that come along with knowing us, like our even better deals. Finally, if you’re like the general public, you’re in the pre-holiday slump. AKA you have no energy, no-inspiration, essentially no UMPH. All of this together makes it the perfect time for you to get away and re-charge (for cheap!) before all of the holiday hubbub gets underway.
Why Cancún, Why Now?
Good question. Cancún, Mexico has an overall consistently beautiful climate, and incredible amount of awesome attractions. This makes it one of the most popular vacation spots in the world. October is a wonderfully quiet month for the city, due to the “slow travel” nature time of the year, which is a bad thing for them but an awesome thing for you.
The weather in October is generally mild, with highs of 81°F/27°C and lows of 75°F/24°C. Yes, October is technically considered part of their rainy season, but really only until mid-October. Even then it mainly only rains in short bursts and overnight. So you still will typically have 23 hours of beautiful sunny weather to enjoy that buttery beach.
The slow stream of travelers makes the city cheap. Hotels, rental cars, flights (if you’re out of buddy passes but still want to drag a friend along with you) are all dirt cheap during this time, cutting your vacation expenses in half, and giving you more to spend on all of the amazing attractions. We have a zillion crazy deals for rental cars and on Cancún hotels that will make you cry with the happiest of tears.
All the Options
Finally, like I mentioned earlier, Cancún is the mecca of “all-of-the-things” to do. I mean it has everything for everyone in every situation. You can relax on the beach and splurge on that all-inclusive spa treatment. You can get out and reconnect with nature and historical culture by visiting a breathtaking cenote or getting lost in the ancient Mayan ruins.
Get re-energized and active by scuba diving the deep blue, jumping off the Stone of Courage, or zip-lining through the green. Finally you could sit back and soak up the culture at one of the hundred mouthwatering restaurants or shop until you drop in the streets. Any way you do it you’ve got a million options to help you stop, reconnect, recharge, and re-energize.
What Deals? Where?!
Deals deals everywhere but you’re not good at research? Good thing you’ve got us, because that’s what we live to do. We are here to be your one-stop-source for insane hotel deals (I’ve seen them as low as $17 a night!), steals on car rentals, all-inclusive resort options, and tear-worthy cruise discounts. We may even be your company’s non-rev ticketing platform, making us the place to plan it all.
Hotel, Rental Car, and Cruise providers love airline employees. Because of this, ID90 Travel is able to secure you, your colleagues, and your family unbeatable discounts that aren’t available to the general public. You. Are. Welcome.
For the attractions there’s plenty of sites that offer some stupid awesome deals. During the off season even these are discounted! Check out TripAdvisor to plan day trips, catamaran outings, or get steals on ziplines and cenote swims. By literally typing into google “Cancún Attraction Discounts” you’ll run across at least a thousand great sites to pick from. More of a spur of the moment kind of person? Locals, hotel staff, and waiters/bartenders are great resources for deals and hidden gems, just make sure you’re being smart and safe!
Which Attractions? How?!
Soak up History
This city is full of history, from the ruins of Tulum, to the iguana filled ruins of El Rey, to one of the newly voted Seven Wonders of the World, Chichen Itza. Visit Xel-Ha to take in more Mayan ruins, the Stone of Courage, or the “largest, most beautiful natural aquarium in the world.” Don’t miss Xcaret‘s wide range of wildlife, underground rivers, or Day of the Dead festival where they recreate the Mayan ocean crossing to Cozumel. Really looking to celebrate the spookiest of months? Check out Isla Mujeres and learn of the past resident’s mysterious death or on the lighter side catch a glimpse of the many sea turtles.
Get in touch with mother nature in Cancún, it’s really hard not to! Experience the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve with it’s numerous habitats, hidden beaches, and 23 archeological sites. Get in that cheap rental car and head over to Cozumel for one of the most incredible diving experiences that Mexico has to offer. Visit Isla Contoy for bird watching, one of the numerous jaw-dropping cenotes like Cenote Route, or indulge the “Lake if the Seven Colors” at the Bacalar Lagoon.
Thrill seekers can’t be bored here. Dive with the reputable Carey Dive Center or Aquaworld Cancún to see the migrating whale sharks, the Musa Cancún Underwater Museum, or ride their version of parasailing, The Skyrider. Get crazy at Xplor on one of the 14 zip lines, amphibious vehicles, or underground rivers to see million year old stalactites and stalagmites. Be “Trainer for a Day” of dolphins at Delphinus Dreams Cancún, or cliff dive at Garrafón Natural Reef Park. You could always find a cruise too, but that one’s on us.
Embrace the Culture
Immerse yourself in Mexican tradition and heritage at Xochimilco where you can enjoy the cuisine, music, and culture, all while riding a trajineras. Shop till you drop on the streets of Playa Del Carmen, or indulge in one of the many life changing restaurants. If you’re a night owl, you’ll have no problem partying hard at clubs like Coco Bongo or one of the many others.
When you can’t run anymore take time to just soak up the scenery and breathe. Fit in a few rounds at Pok-Ta-Pok Golf Club, or just lay back and soak up the sun at Playa Tortugs, Playa Delfines, or Isla Holbox. Prefer to do your relaxing indoors? There’s plenty of spas for you too.
